Young Adelaide Voices is a unique South Australian Choir catering for young people aged 5 – 35. This community based, not-for-profit choir school provides a top quality choral education within a friendly and positive environment. It’s exciting to hear how young choristers grow in skill and maturity as they progress through the choirs and hear how they develop not only in sound but in confidence and teamwork.These bonds are strong and the music and friendships they make in their years in YAV last a lifetime.
Since its inception in 1988, Young Adelaide Voices has become an internationally renowned choir, having made six overseas tours to Europe, UK, North America, China and Hong Kong. They have represented Australia in the 2005 World Festival of Children’s Choirs and most recently at the European Youth Choral Festival in Neerpelt, Belgium, as part of their 2008 international tour of Japan, England, Belgium and Germany.
The Choir has given recitals in many famous venues overseas including Westminster Abbey, St Martin-in-the-Fields, Australia House in London and St Paul’s Cathedral (England); Cologne Cathedral and Marienkirche, Dresden (Germany); Disneyland (USA) and Peace Park, Hiroshima (Japan).
Young Adelaide Voices has performed on numerous occasions as guest artists of many professional organisations such as the South Australian Police Band, the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, James Morrison and the Adelaide Festival Centre. They also perform for many government and community functions. The choir have been awarded the Key to the City of Adelaide in recognition of their international success and outstanding contribution both locally, interstate and overseas.
They have produced 9 CDs, one of which was recorded with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. Their latest release, OYE! was released in December 2008.
As part of their 2008 tour the Choir won 1st Prize cum laude at the European Youth Choral Festival in Neerpelt, Belgium.
